I am a graduate of Harvard College (B.A. 1966)
and the California
Institute of Technology (Ph.D. 1971). I was
appointed Professor of Astronomy at The
Ohio State University in 1988 and currently
work there along with being a Visiting Senior Scientist
at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory. Previously
I was a staff astronomer at Kitt Peak National Observatory
(KPNO) in Tucson, at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory
(CTIO) in La Serena, Chile, and a Research Fellow
and Lecturer at Harvard University. At present I
am Vice-chair of the AURA oversight committee for
the Gemini telescope
project.
My present astronomical research interests are
connected with observational aspects of stellar
evolution and the morphology, dynamics, and stellar
content of galaxies. Much of the observational work
I do is in the near infrared and involves both imaging
and spectroscopy. The OSU galaxy survey
(of which I am P.I.) entails both optical and near-IR
imaging of spiral galaxies. Several other OSU faculty
members and grad students have been involved with
this survey as well. Paul Eskridge, with whom I had the pleasure to
work with as a postdoctoral fellow in the OSU astronomy
department, devotes much of his time to research
connected with the survey.
I am also an avid photographer and have documented
many of my travels through the use of a camera.
