You
might notice some resemblance between these
two pictures. On the left is a portion of
the Hubble Space Telescope image of N44C.
On the right is the graphic that Adobe
Systems uses as the logo for their illustration
software, Adobe
Illustrator. The Illustrator logo is based
on the famous 15th century painting Birth
of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, highly
stylized and modified to represent the capabilities
of the software. In particular, the flowing,
wispy lines of the nebulosity in N44C resemble
the forms of Venus's wind-blown hair in Botticelli's
iconic painting. Although purely coincidental,
it provides a remarkable example of the convergence
of art, science, and technology that the Hubble
Heritage project aims to exemplify.
