Mario Livio

(STScI)

Dr. Mario Livio is an astrophysicist at the Space Telescope Science Institute (which conducts the scientific program of the Hubble Space Telescope), and the Head of the Institute's Office of Public Outreach. He is the former Head of the Institute's Science Division. Dr Livio's research spans many topics in theoretical astrophysics, ranging from dark energy and supernova explosions, to black holes and extrasolar planets. He has published more than 400 scientific papers. In recent years, Dr Livio has published four popular science books: "The Accelerating Universe" (published in 2000), "The Golden Ratio" (published in 2003), "The Equation That Couldn't Be Solved" (published in 2005), and most recently "Is God A Mathematician?" (2009). His book "The Golden Ratio" won him the "Peano Prize" and the "International Pythagoras Prize".
